Can I remove MDM from iPhone?

You can remove MDM from iPhone. However, the way how to have this done depends on MDM software used to enroll your device into the MDM program. As you already know, MDM software has a wide range of features allowing to remotely configure, monitor, track, lock and even erase devices at the discretion of the company an iPhone is used in. The main purpose of this kind of supervision is to secure corporate data.

MDM Software can be used on corporate-owned iPhones, as well as on personal devices, which employees use in their daily working activities. The part of MDM software making this possible is the MDM profile, or configuration profile deployed in iPhone’s settings. This profile is what you need to remove from your iPhone to make it any restriction or supervision free.

Unfortunately, not all MDM profiles are easy to remove from iPhone. The great majority of MDM software doesn’t allow a user to just remove MDM profile from settings. This can be done only with involvement of IT staff of the company which deployed the MDM profile on an iPhone.

If your iPhone was enrolled to MDM program within bring-your-own-device program, or BYOD, and you leave the company, you can ask IT department to remove MDM from your iPhone which, most likely, they will easily do to make sure your device won’t have access to corporate data after you leave.

However, this is not an option in most cases, especially if you bought an MDM locked iPhone in the aftermarket. If you are lucky and your iPhone was enrolled in the MDM program manually using Apple configuration, then one of the two methods described below might work.

  • Open Settings.
  • Go to General > Device Management.
  • Select MDM profile to remove.
  • Select “Remove management”.
