How Do You Know If Your Employer Is Tracking You?

If you want to know if your employer is tracking you, the first thing you should know is whether your iPhone or iPad is enrolled into an MDM Program. If your device is MDM locked, you’ll see a message saying that on the lock screen.
Another way to make sure your device is actually supervised by an employer is to check its settings. If your iPhone is running on iOS 10 and higher, go to the Settings app and look at the top of the screen above your name.
If you see a message saying “this iPhone is supervised and managed by “Company Name”, this means your device is enrolled in MDM and is monitored by the company’s IT department. If your iPhone is running on iOS 9 and earlier, this message can be found as follows: Settings > General > About.
Enrollment into an MDM program means that your employer has set restrictions on your device such as prevention of certain apps usage, like App Store, as well as features, like AirDrop. Your employer also can remotely lock or even erase your device.
At the same time, your employer won’t have access to your personal information like contacts, phone calls or FaceTime log, iMessages and SMS, as well as to your browser history. But you should be aware that your employer can track Internet data if you browse using the corporate WiFi network.
Speaking of your location tracking, Apple allows their users to keep privacy by letting MDM administrators to track Apple device’s location only when they are put into Managed Lost Mode. This means that if your device is misplaced, lost or stolen, MDM administrators can remotely lock it and put it into Managed Lost Mode which will allow them to track its location.
This a security measure to prevent unauthorized access to corporate data which could cause damage for the company. Once the device is returned or found, MDM administrator will unlock it and disable the Managed Lost Mode which will stop location tracking.
