What Can My Employer See on My iPhone?

As a rule, when your device is enrolled into an MDM program (or Mobile Device Management program), you can view what information your employer can see and what adjustments were made to your iPhone’s settings by checking MDM profile in the Settings app of your device.
MDM profile is a part of MDM software installed on your device by the program administrator. It contains information on which information is available to your employer and what restrictions are imposed on your iPhone.
You can check this information by going to Settings > General > Profiles & Device Management.
Each company, business, school or other organization running an MDM program has its own requirements towards enrolled devices restrictions, settings, configurations and so on. This way, they make sure their sensitive data is secured and mobile devices usage complies to their policies in regards to corporate network usage and access to data.
For your convenience, we’ve selected basic lists of what an employer typically can and cannot see on your iPhone.
Employer can see:
- iPhone name
- iPhone number
- Serial Number
- Model name and number
- Capacity and space available
- iOS version
- Apps installed
Employer server can NOT see:
- iMessages and SMS
- Personal mail, contacts and calendar
- Personal notes and reminders
- Safari browser history
- Phone calls and FaceTime logs
- Apps use frequency
- Device location if it’s not in Managed Lost Mode
Another way to find out this information is to ask the IT administrator and they should give you the exact information regarding changes made to your iPhone settings and access to information on your device.
