MDM solutions allow IT administrators to generate the code to clear Activation Lock on the iPhone or iPad that is enrolled into mobile device management program. This clearing method mostly refers to all corporate gadgets used by the company.
You know that MDM tools such as IBM MaaS360, Citrix XenMobile, ManageEngine Mobile Device Manager Plus, AppTec360, SOTI MobiControl and others allow companies perform various distant tricks with gadgets involved. All the devices that are enrolled into any mobile device management system can be erased and locked remotely.
This can be done without the gadget view in MDM dashboard. The company admin can generate the unlock code if the iPhone or iPad has activation lock on it. It is curious that once the lock is cleared this way it will stay the same in the old gadget record. In other words, when the device is removed from the MDM program it will remain unlocked.
Not all gadgets are eligible for such feature. You can check in with your MDM administrator if you are officially enrolled into mobile device management program.
If you are eligible, the MDM dashboard will show allow generation the code. Use this code when you see the activation screen prompt:
- Step 1. Connect the phone to iTunes or try to unlock the iPhone or iPad by tapping on the screen.
- Step 2. You’ll see the activation screen.
- Step 3. Just remember to type nothing in the username field.
- Step 4. Type in the clear activation code where the password should be entered.
- Step 5. Click on Next option.
- Step 6. The iPhone or iPad will be activated if you enter the correct code.
It is important to understand that each code is unique. It is impossible to enter the same code to multiple iDevice. Each code is generated automatically when the new phone is enrolled into MDM system. This way big and small companies cant lock and unlock all corporate devices used by their employees and distantly control such gadgets and the information they can access.
Also don’t mistake Activation Lock with iOS MDM lock as these are two completely different things. You can always remove Mobile Device Management (MDM) lock on the corporate iPhone and iPad models using iActivate.host tool. However the same tool doesn’t work with Activation Lock issue.
P.S. Always double check the iPhone or iPad IMEI status before getting a used (previously owned) Apple device. There are a lot of situations when such second-hand devices turn out to be locked and cannot be used by the new owner.
